Troubleshooting AVX, DLL, or Installer Errors (Windows)
If you encounter any of the following errors while installing or using Topaz Photo, follow the troubleshooting steps below:
“Your CPU must support AVX instructions to install this program.”“Error status 0xc0e90002”- or any
.dllinstaller errors
⬇️ Choose below whether the error occurs during installation or while using the app:
Step 1: Confirm AVX Support
Topaz Photo requires a processor that supports AVX instructions.
If Topaz Photo has never been installed on this machine, or if you want to confirm your CPU has AVX instructions, send your System Profile to Support and we can confirm whether your processor supports AVX instructions:

- Send the dxdiag file to support@topazlabs.com
Step 2: Update Microsoft Visual C++ (MSVC)
These installer errors are commonly caused by outdated or missing Microsoft Visual C++ runtime components.
Download and install the latest MSVC package here:
Once installed:
- Reboot your computer
- Retest the installer from your Apps Page.
If you own a Legacy App, you can find your Legacy installers here.
- Windows installer for Intel or AMD processors
- Snapdragon installer for Qualcomm/ARM processors`
Step 3: Install All Windows Updates
Check if your machine is fully updated before installing the app. Check both locations below:
- Settings → Windows Update
- Settings → Windows Update → Advanced Options → Optional Updates
Once all updates are installed, reboot your computer and retest the installer from your Apps Page.
Step 4: Turn off Windows Smart App Control
If errors remain Topaz apps use Windows Installer Transform (MST) files during installation and updates. Windows currently does not provide a way for MST files to be digitally signed, which can cause Smart App Control to block files required by the Topaz installer.
If you receive an error while installing or updating:
- Open Windows Security.
- Go to App & browser control → Smart App Control settings.
- Turn Smart App Control off.
- Run the Topaz installer or update again.
Step 1: Turn off Windows Smart App Control
If Smart App Control continues to block files or causes issues while using a Topaz app, Smart App Control will need to remain turned off.
- Open Windows Security.
- Go to App & browser control → Smart App Control settings.
- Turn Smart App Control off.
- Restart the Topaz app.
Still Having Issues?
If the issue persists after completing the steps above, try the following:
- Right-click the installer and select Run as Administrator.
- Temporarily disable the firewall (present on every machine) and antivirus, then retry the installation.
- Ensure you have sufficient free disk space available on your system drive.
- Install Topaz Photo to the default location on the C: Drive. Installing to a network drive or external drive is not supported and can cause installation issues and plugin issues.
If the issue still remains, please contact the Support Team so we can continue troubleshooting. Send an email to support@topazlabs.com and include:
